Narada’s Narration

Self-controlled hero,
the Ikshvaku scion.

Behold Ram...

Broad-shouldered, mighty-armed,
conch-necked, strong-jawed;
deep-chested, long-armed,
muscles defined and powerful.

Fine forehead, elegant stride,
every limb even;
majestic, large-eyed,
masculine and handsome.

Behold Ram...

Even-minded, pure,
master of his senses;
wise, eloquent, yet humble,
devoted to the good of all.

Guardian of dharma,
protector of the world;
master archer,
brilliant in memory.

Divine and graceful,
loved wherever he goes;
as rivers seek the ocean,
the virtuous seek him.

Behold Ram...

Ocean in spiritual depth,
Himalayas in fortitude;
Moon in beauty,
Earth in forbearance.

Sage in truth and dharma,
Kal-agni Shiva in purging wrath;
Dhana-dena Lakshmi in giving wealth,
Vishnu Himself in valor.

Behold Ram...

Queen Kausalya’s joy,
King Dasharatha’s elder son;
the heir apparent,
chosen crown prince.

But exiled he was to fulfill
his father’s promise;
Brother Lakshman followed,
and also noble wife, Sita.

Adventure and misadventure,
comfort and discomfort—
walking miles for days,
they endured it all.

Behold Ram...

His forest duties done,
the trio returned on Pushpaka
to regain the kingdom.

The world grew joyful;
the subjects prospered.

In his Ashvamedha Yajna now,
Ram will give vast wealth;
duties done,
he’ll depart to the divine realm.

And the world,
reading Ram's story
will be lifted to goodness.
